うつむき加減の女性像が木炭によって描かれ、無駄な線を排した簡潔さのなかに女性の柔らかな美が表現されている。肩から腹部にかけての陰影は誇張されることなく、むしろ控えめに描かれ、洋画家による裸婦素描とは一線を画す軽やかな作風となっている。

左足の膝から脛にかけては右足の一部が透けるように重なって描かれ、素描として人物の骨格や構造を的確に捉える役割を果たしている。さらに人物の周囲には白い絵具が塗られ、木炭の黒とともに、ごく淡い青がわずかに差されている。それらが人物を柔らかく浮かび上がらせ、単なる習作や素描の域を超えて、一つの完成された作品として成立している。

A woman, her head gently lowered, is depicted in charcoal with an economy of line that conveys the softness of feminine beauty without excess. The shading that flows from the shoulders to the abdomen is rendered without exaggeration, creating a lightness of style distinct from Western approaches to the nude study.

From the knee to the shin of the left leg, the faint transparency of the overlapping right leg reveals Takayama’s precise grasp of the figure’s underlying structure—fulfilling the true role of a drawing as a study of form. Surrounding the figure, touches of white pigment, charcoal, and the faintest trace of blue create an atmospheric halo that lifts the subject from the page. Thus, the work transcends the category of a mere sketch, standing instead as a finished piece in its own right.
