Kojiro Kosugi “Pansies by the Seaside”

Vivid pansies bloom from a green vase, their colors heightened by the vessel’s deep tone and immediately catching the eye. Behind them, the sea lies calm, with a sailing boat motionless upon its surface—an image of tranquil stillness as Kosugi must have seen it. On the table rest a pear, a fig, and a plum, their carefully balanced arrangement creating a subtle sense of rhythm.

In the composition, two perspectives coexist: the horizontal gaze toward the sea and the slightly elevated view over the tabletop. That these viewpoints merge seamlessly reveals Kosugi’s mastery of structure and his ability to weave quiet harmony from differing angles of vision.
