Tatsuo Takayama ”The House”
In this work, a lakeside dwelling is enveloped by trees rendered with undulating strokes, giving the impression that the foliage embraces the house. The treatment creates a sense of mass and solidity, while the dark green tones on the house’s walls evoke moss, suggesting the weight of time and the enduring presence of the building.
Portions of the scene are reflected upon the still surface of the lake or pond, instilling the composition with a profound sense of tranquility. Notably, the artist’s red seal appears in the corner—not merely as a signature, but as a deliberate accent of color, balancing the composition and integrating the act of signing into the pictorial whole. It is a revealing example of Takayama’s deep engagement with every element of the work.
