FAQ

Q: Are the works authentic?

A. Yes. Built on a trusted sourcing network, Shoutou places authenticity and provenance first and lists only works that meet the standards below.

  • Living artists
Backed by the artist’s signature/seal, atelier/estate label (kyō-shīru), and original tomobako inscription or direct provenance.

  • Deceased artists
Where an official authenticator/institution exists, a certificate of authenticity is included (e.g., Toobi Certification for Fine Arts). Where none exists, we handle only works supported by atelier/estate seals and credible provenance documents.

  • “Certificate to be issued later”
For certain works, authentication is conducted after purchase and the certificate is shipped together with the artwork at a later date.

We disclose the presence/issuer of signatures, seals, box inscriptions, labels, and certificates at listing.

If a reasonable concern about authenticity arises, we will seek re-verification by the appropriate authority and act accordingly—cancellation/refund per policy.

Q: How can I check a work’s condition?

Answer.
Each product page includes a “Condition” section, with grades from S to D applied separately to the artwork itself, the frame or mounting, and any accessories. High-resolution photographs are provided, and upon request we can also supply additional photos, videos, exact measurements, or live online viewings.

Grading Guide

  • S (As-new): Virtually no signs of display or use; excellent preservation.

  • A (Excellent): Minor age-related changes, but no noticeable flaws.

  • B (Good): Small scratches or pinpoint foxing visible on close inspection; minimal impact on viewing.

  • C (Fair): Clear signs of aging or restoration, yet suitable for display. Fully disclosed in text and photos.

  • D (Displayable): Prominent flaws. Still displayable, but restoration or replacement is recommended.

All notable issues are always disclosed, such as discoloration, foxing, fading, scuffs, tears, cockling, or slackness of the mounting. Should the condition upon delivery differ materially from what was described, we will, in accordance with our policy, take prompt and fair action—whether arranging replacement, restoration, or issuing a refund.

Q: Is framing included?

Answer.

We will provide you with the most suitable shipping option and a quotation based on your request.

Q: Can I return a purchased work?
