Mika Okumura ”Repose”
A path stretches through the heart of the forest, sheltered beneath overhanging trees. From the distance, a faint light filters in, imbuing the scene with a sense of fantasy, as though the road might lead to another world beyond.
At the center, the white trunks are rendered with deliberate firmness, while the branches at their tips spread freely with untamed vitality. This contrast between solidity and spontaneity shapes the rhythm of the forest. In the upper right, a flock of birds—likely white herons—takes flight, capturing the quiet presence of Japan’s native landscape.
The foreground is treated with a technique in which gold leaf has been gently abraded, evoking the texture of untouched earth. Through this interplay of meticulous detail and luminous surface, Okumura conjures an atmosphere of repose—an invitation for the viewer to pause, breathe, and dwell within the stillness of the forest.
